You could be losing late-night prospects, although an inbox alone cannot show how many. A visitor who needs an answer now may not wait until the next business day. Lumi, the AI Concierge for your website closes that response gap by answering from your business knowledge and routing leads to staff. It supports immediate service without pretending that every question, transaction or follow-up can be automated.

Key takeaways
  • A next-day reply creates a real period in which a visitor has no answer and can leave without identifying themselves.
  • Lumi provides immediate website answers using public website content and private or internal business knowledge.
  • Website discovery reads up to 25 public pages and organizes the material into knowledge items.
  • Leads reach staff through email, optional SMS and Lumi workspace views; no CRM provider is currently implemented.
  • Measure the after-hours journey directly rather than treating delayed replies or booking starts as proof of lost or completed business.
01

Why an overnight response gap matters

The practical problem is not simply that the inbox contains unanswered messages. It is that the visitor may be trying to resolve a specific issue before taking a next step: understanding a price, checking a policy, finding instructions or deciding whether a product is suitable. An immediate, grounded answer keeps that journey moving. A delayed email asks the visitor to preserve their own interest until your team returns.

This is why reliable business answers across the customer journey matter more than a generic promise of round-the-clock availability. The useful standard is whether a visitor can obtain an accurate answer from approved business information when a person is not present. Lumi’s role is to provide that first response as an AI Concierge, not to impersonate staff or manufacture an answer that the available knowledge does not support.

The key difference

Immediate website answerThe visitor receives relevant information during the active session and can decide what to do next.
Next-day shared-inbox replyThe visitor must wait, return to the conversation and still be interested when the response arrives. Compare the two journeys in immediate website answers versus next-day replies.
02

How Lumi handles questions while your team is offline

Lumi uses business knowledge to answer website questions during the visitor’s active session. That knowledge can include public website material as well as private and internal business information supplied for the concierge. This gives the response a defined factual base rather than requiring the visitor to navigate pages, search an FAQ or wait for an employee to interpret the question.

  1. Lumi’s website discovery reads public content from up to 25 pages.
  2. The discovered material is organized into knowledge items.
  3. Private and internal business knowledge can supplement the public material.
  4. A visitor asks Lumi a question on the website.
  5. Lumi answers from the available business knowledge, while leads that need staff attention are surfaced for follow-up.

Discovery has been verified across six businesses. Access requires an eligible trial, plan or company status. The page limit also makes curation important: prioritize the pages that contain the policies, services, products, prices and instructions visitors most often need after hours.

03

What your team receives when a visitor becomes a lead

Lumi does not make staff follow-up unnecessary. Its job is to answer what the business knowledge supports, keep the visitor engaged and make the resulting lead visible to the team. Leads are delivered by email, can also trigger SMS, and appear within the Lumi workspace. Available workspace views include Home, Business Lumi, Customers, Insights and Opportunities.

The working handoff

Immediate responseLumi addresses the visitor’s supported question during the website session.
Lead notificationThe team receives the lead through email, with SMS available as an additional notification route.
Workspace visibilityStaff can review activity through Lumi’s business-facing workspace views.
Human follow-upThe team handles questions or decisions that require a person, unsupported system access or additional context.

That boundary is important when evaluating results. Lumi has working Customer Intelligence dashboard areas for overview, funnel, insights, prospects and detailed analytics, but revenue and opportunity reporting needs integrations that are not available. Use the information the system actually records; do not infer completed sales from conversations or lead notifications.

04

What Lumi should answer—and what should remain with staff

The strongest after-hours experience starts with answer coverage, not automation for its own sake. Put stable, approved and frequently requested information into the knowledge base. Keep sensitive judgment calls, unsupported transactions and questions requiring unavailable account data with your team. For specialist businesses, assessing approved answer coverage is the right test: identify what Lumi can answer reliably before expanding into edge cases.

Approved operational details are especially useful after hours because visitors often need them before an appointment or service begins. For example, businesses can examine the experience of finding approved key handover instructions without forcing a visitor to wait for someone to reopen an inbox. The same principle applies to telephone numbers: test that approved numbers remain correct in multilingual answers rather than assuming translated or mixed-language questions will always retrieve the intended detail.

Control what is eligible for an answer. Draft material should not be treated as public policy merely because it exists somewhere in the business. Retail teams, for instance, should establish a clear separation for keeping draft promotions out of public answers. The governing principle is straightforward: speed does not compensate for exposing unfinished or unapproved information.

05

Commerce questions require precise boundaries

For a business with a connected SHOPLINE store, Lumi can use synchronized SHOPLINE catalog information for product answers. Supported catalog details include prices, minimum and maximum price information, compare-at prices and per-variant pricing. This gives product visitors a direct answer from connected catalog data rather than requiring staff to respond manually the next morning.

On the SHOPLINE storefront, cart creation and changes take place in SHOPLINE’s own cart through the shopper’s browser. A visitor can act on quantities from 1 to 20 per action, and each change is checked by reading the cart back. If an action fails, the previous display remains and the visitor receives a short retry message. Cart actions are not available when Lumi is used on a non-SHOPLINE website.

Lumi does not store the cart, calculate discounts, taxes, totals or shipping, process payment, or create the SHOPLINE order. Values displayed for discounts come from SHOPLINE’s cart response, and checkout redirects to the store rather than being embedded. Order questions are not implemented; Lumi directs the shopper to contact the store. When documenting the experience, focus on explaining payment policies without collecting card details and keep payment and order creation with SHOPLINE.

06

How to determine whether after-hours inquiries are costing you business

Do not answer the question with intuition alone. Begin by separating what you know from what the current systems cannot prove. You know that a next-day reply leaves the visitor waiting. You can inspect conversation, lead and funnel information available in Lumi. You cannot treat unavailable CRM revenue metrics, experimental checkout tagging or booking starts as proof of completed business.

  1. List the questions that arrive when staff are unavailable.
  2. Identify which answers already exist in public pages and which require private business knowledge.
  3. Prioritize stable, approved information that helps visitors decide or proceed.
  4. Use website discovery to organize the relevant public material, within its 25-page limit.
  5. Test real wording, including mixed-language questions where relevant; test mixed-language return questions against approved policies rather than checking only ideal phrasing.
  6. Review the visitor-to-lead journey and the available funnel information without converting starts or clicks into claimed sales.
  7. Have staff review the unanswered or escalated questions and improve coverage where the business has an approved answer.

The aim is not to automate every late-night exchange. It is to remove unnecessary waiting for questions your business is already equipped to answer. When a question needs individual judgment, an unsupported integration or order information Lumi cannot access, the correct outcome is a clear staff handoff.

The bottom line

If every late-night message waits until morning, your business has an avoidable response gap. You cannot honestly convert that gap into a precise number of lost customers without connected outcome data, but you should not ignore it. Use Lumi to answer supported questions immediately from your public and private business knowledge, then route leads to staff for the work that needs a person. Start with accurate, high-demand information, test the difficult wording visitors actually use, and measure only the outcomes your systems can substantiate.
